"It is better if you tell your insurance company about a speeding ticket..."

It is better if you tell your insurance company about a speeding ticket . This is so because the DMV of a state and the insurance companies of that state work in collaboration with each other. Hence, even if you do not inform your insurance company, they will some how get to know about your speeding ticket and act accordingly. Jack Sullivan

This answer closely relates to:
  • Telling insurance companies about speeding tickets
    • Do i need to inform my insurance company because of a speeding ticket?
    • Do insurance companies know when you get a speeding ticket?
    • How do insurance companies know if you get a speeding ticket?

Q. What is reported to the insurance company when you get a speeding ticket?
i'm just wondering if i have to tell my parents about a speeding ticket i received... i wasn't exactly where i was supposed to be and i want to know what the insurance company will tell the policy holders (my parents). will they give details about the location and time the ticket was given?

"Your insurance or parents will never know...."

Dont listen to that clown INFORMATICA. He's a carfax spy and doesnt know what the hell he's talking about. As long as you're not listed on the policy, your insurance or parents will never know.

Q. Can an insurance company raise auto rates for a speeding ticket that is not on my record?
what happend was, i got a ticket for speeding (5 over) and i panicked and went to my insurance agent. he said that as long as its cleared before the company checks again you should be fine. so i am contesting the ticket. now i found out that my rates have gone up because of the ticket but it is not on my record yet. i went to the department of licensing and got a 3 year driving record and its clean. is my agent allowed to raise my premiums like this?

"You reported it to your insurance..."

You reported it to your insurance. They can and obviously did.

Q. How long does it take the insurance company to respond to a speeding ticket? im 17, went 95 in a 65 zone in ca
i want to go to court to try to take the record off my record, so it isnt reflected on my car insurance...my court date is set for end of september. i know my insurance will go up like crazy, so i want to plead guilty and get traffic school, rather than having the points on my record (if you have any recommendations on how to do this, feel free to post them). anyway, i want to know how long it usually takes the insurance company to respond to a speeding ticket, so i know the circumstances. i dont mind paying the bail with my own money, but i do mind if it drives my insurance up, forcing my parents to pay a ridiculous amount for bail.

"Most of my companies won't even renew a policy with..."

Your company will find out on the next renewal (well about 2 months before when they pull motor vehicle records for all drivers in the household). This was an excessive speeding & if you just pay the fine, the insurance will still see the ticket on your record, (does driving school wipe out the ticket, or just take off the points?) whether you have motor vehicle points or not. Motor vehicle points do not matter to the insurance company. It is the actual ticket that matters. When I pull a motor vehicle record I NEVER look at the points, because it just has no bearing on the insurance. Most of my companies won't even renew a policy with someone that has an excessive speeding ticket (ESPECIALLY a young driver), but that depends on the State & their rules for nonrenewal. I'm sure that your parents will be hearing from the insurance company before their renewal about this. So, best thing you can do is to pay the difference in their insurance, or have them sell you one of their cars or buy your own car & get your own insurance. STOP SPEEDING!

Q. Four months shy of 3 years since i got a speeding ticket will my insurance company raise my rates if found ?
i got a speeding ticket in another state on 5-5-06 i am a few months shy of my 3 year mark if my insurance finds out about it will they raise my rates and if so will it only be for those few months or 3 years from the day they find out about the ticket and also my friend is gonna put my on his auto policy which is with the same company when he puts on his will they report to my policy and raise my rates

"Insurers usually check moving violation records when the policy is coming up for renewal..."

If it's with the same company then there should be now reason for them to order a new moving violations record. Insurers usually check moving violation records when the policy is coming up for renewal. Obviously the underwriters are asleep at the wheel and having been checking. If they were to check know they could backdate the increase to the beginning of the current term, but they wouldn't increase the premium for the last 3 years.

Q. Do i need to report my speeding ticket to my insurance company?
i got it today, and i can't report to court til monday. i'm going to do defensive driving.

"You are only required to contact them if you are in an accident..."

No, you are under no obligation to tell them about a ticket. You are only required to contact them if you are in an accident. They usually only run someone when the policy is up for renewal. It could be a while before they find out. Telling them now could cost you higher premiums sooner.

Q. Do i have to tell my insurance company about my speeding ticket? what happens if i don't?

You have to tell them about any points on your license or your insurance will be considered invalid and you'd be in a right mess if you had a bump.

Q. Is the insurance company notified when you have a speeding ticket but no points were taken?
just wondering. got a speeding ticket. hope the judge doesn't charge any points. if he doesn't, does this still get reported to the insurance agency?

no, you might have to mention it next time you renew if you want to keep it above board, probably best to, but tis not a major crime.

Q. Is my insurance company in illinois going to find out that i received a speeding ticket in ontario?
i got a speeding ticket in london, ontario. i payed it online the day i got it. i'm really hoping that my insurance company does not find out that i got one. the cop gave me my license back and told me to pay it in 15 days, which i did. i am very nervous about this. any helpful comments would be great. also, 4 other people got pulled over at the same time. it was bullshit and i was going with the flow of traffic.

"I doubt that canadian dmv comunicate with us insurance agency..."

Thats a great question! I doubt that Canadian DMV comunicate with US insurance agency. Its just only the past few years all states have begun comunicating. My money says your safe on this one. Just slow down next time, it may be Canada but its still another country.

Q. Does ma report speeding tickets to your insurance company if it is out of state?
i live in nc and i was driving home on the mass pike from a celtics game and i got a speeding ticket...i heard that ma does not report to out of state insurance companies...is that true? it was estimated at 86 in a 65

It will go on your driving record in NC and I don't believe they report it to the insurance..Your insurance just checks a copy of your driving record usually at renewal time and the all tickets etc no matter where they come from will show........UJN
