How can i find my car is insured? I need an answer please. Somebody knows the answer to this. If you are that somebody or you have a few clues please post. I really appreciate your help.

If the person is the first buyer of the car then the car will be insured at the same time when he bought the car. If the person want to find whether the car is insured or not , the person needs to read the insurance papers carefully . sam perry

The police can find out the insurance company, policy number and who it covers just from the numberplate of any car anywhere. They would have to record why they checked it however - ie not for their own general interest.

my friend has a vehicle which is being sought after by a recovery service. this car is still being driven, with legal tags. can a recovery service find out who the car is insured with? will a automobile insurance co. give out that kind of personal information? please don't answer this question unless you know the answer. thanks please don't answer this question with a question like my first responder did...thanks

use Internet banking and look at your direct debits to see who it set up with, but if i were you i would cancel the Direct debit and find anther quote on line as soon as you can to make sure you have got cover

my daughter got stopped by the police today and has to produce her documents. she has insurance but cant remember who it is with and cannot find the policy. does anyone know how she can find out. she obviously does not want to get fined or worse when she is covered. i have already told her she is an idiot!

check her bank statements for old checks or credit card bill to see who she paid for the insurance, and there may be a copy with the state or town office if they require that.

If you can't find any record at all (credit cards, phone bills, browser history) then you could contact the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) by emailing information@mib.org.uk - The MIB run the Motor Insurance Database (MID), a database that contains records of all insured vehicles in the UK.

As others have suggested check out you old bank balance statements it might help if you can remember the date you took it out, But if you paid some insurance brokers in your town go to them I'm sure they will be help full. If all fails try the police they can find out if you car is insured and has a currant M O T perhaps they might help you ,but take some means of identification with you IE your drivers licence bank book or passport, or all. Good luck, papers are so easily thrown by mistake aren't they.Ps the police might ask about an insurance cover note to prove you are driving leagal, so leave your car at home just in case they do. You might just be charged if you cannot produce a up to date covernote whilst driving, so leave your car at home untill you find one. Best of luck. Alex

if a car is parked on the road without tax can the police find out the name and address of the insurer?.. if they can access this information then i would have thought that this would be breaking the data protection act?? or can the police just tell that a vehichle has insurance and not see details of the insurer?

Without tax? Do you mean tags? All vehicles have a vin number up under the window, drivers side. This number can be traced back to last vehicle ownership.

im 17 obv and i need to find a cheapish car to get insured. the cheapest one ive found is a pug 106 1.1 but thats still at £2000 hellpp?

At 17 it has little to do with the car when establishing at least the minimum premium. Other factors do also come into it as i have said on here too many times to count, like where you live, your occupation and where the car is left overnight. Unfortunately what does have a great bearing is that they are insuring you against the damage you may do to other peoples cars and property. As one in 5 of you will have a crash in the first year they have got to get in a few thousands for every 5 of you to be able to pay for it.
