if i print a document i just want black ink, but it prints in colour as well if the original doc has colour on it. i always press the black button on the printer, but i keep getting the same result. help, please, and thank you.

I`ve been waiting for a colour ink cartridge for my Kodak printer to arrive. I don`t need to print in colour but the damn think won`t print black unless the colour cartridge has ink in it . I do think Kodak ink is cheaper than others but this is very sneaky.

I have the same problem. I have to change my black ink and color ink at the same time. If I replace only the black ink it will not print even if I ask to print in black and white only. It keeps asking to change the color ink and I can`t print anything. I am really disappointed with Kodak, there should be a way to bypass this - logically asking to print in black and white should bypass this problem, but it doesn`t.

Use the manual that came with your printer, or download a copy from the Canon printers website. The basic idea is pretty simple, but you have to catch the move until you`ll feel comfortable changing it with ease. You just need to open the printer`s cover, wait for the cartridge cradle to stop, unplug , slowly pull out cartridges, remove the protective tape from new ones and then replace them gently until the new cartridge clicks . The black cartridge does not have a chip. Only the color cartridge has a chip. Since it only has two electrical points of contact, the chip is limited in what it can do. I would guess that the chip is some kind of RF and that internal to the printer itself it can read the RF ID and then resets a counter when it gets a new RF ID. My guess is that it resets both the black and color cartridges at some ratio at the same time. It may however, just reset the color. I am checking now, if I print only in black and white if it considers the color empy at the same time as the black. I will post a note after the evaluation. I have extracted the chip from the color cartridge and can see it under the scope. I will try and reverse engineer it to see what the functions are.

You should install the cartridges as the manual says or simply following these steps: lift the top cover of the printer, unplug the printer from power, take ink cartridges out (see the arrows on it) and replace them with new ones after removing the protective tape on their bottom.
