To just see niagara falls doen`t cost you anything. If you want to use some tours or helicopter only that will cost you money but just walking and watching is for free. And of course parking lot cost you about 10 dollars. So just go to niagara falls and have fun while watching that amazing waterfall :) John Doubtson

Joe, I imagine you will take the New York State Thruway to cross New York (it is the simplest way). But you can avoid this and most tolls. Do you know the MapQuest website at all? There is an option to avoid tolls and to find you the cheapest gas prices too. Check it out. i'm planning a shopping trip to the states. we usually go to niagara falls outlets and enjoy them. our friends sometimes go to pa. i'm hoping someone can offer an opinion about the differences in shopping between the three places i mentioned. we will be looking mostly for kids and adults clothing. i recognize that in pa there's no sales tax, but the deals and variety would have to be much better than niagara falls for us to cover the cost of travelling to pa which is a couple of hours further away. please share your thoughts. thanks. lisa

the shopping in erie is much better than the mall near the falls, many more stores and better choices to make, dont know about that other part of pa, been to erie many times.

If you are travelling by yourself, it is better to take the Niagara Airbus as suggested above. They charge per person. If you are travelling in a group of 2+ people, then take a taxi, that is the cheapest rate you'll find. They charge $75 for the *car*, which would fit up to 4 people plus luggage. Yes, they'll drive you over the border and straight to your hotel, for that flat rate. Have a great trip!

i have found an amtrak station feom near our hostel in buffalo, but am unable to find one that goes to the airport. does anybody know how i would travel from the niagara station to the airport and the cost? thanks

from downtown buffalo,i'm assuming thats where you are starting since you mention the amtrak station is maybe a 20 minute car ride..from downtown the easiest way to the airport would be to get to rt 33 and take that right to the airport....if you are not renting a car a cab will do the job...im not sure about cost and all but the ride itself would be about 20 minutes

i'm going to toronto in a couple of weeks and i'm spending a day in niagara falls, i was also wanting to go to buffalo ny for a few hours while i'm there, but we don't have a car. what is the most efficient and and cost effective way to get there? is there a bus or shuttle service? taxi (is it expensive)?

I took Greyhound. I'l warn you though: a)don't go to Buffalo on the weekend. It's a "typical" American city in that the white people all live in huge beautiful - but remote - suburbs and the downtown core just shuts down. b)be aware that there's nothing really there except for a big suburban mall and really cute accents (the people are super sweet). I take the Greyhound. It's only like 50$ and isn't very long. Good luck!

those of you who live there, do you like it? real estate is very cheap there, i know, because of the lack of jobs. my situation is different from many because i telecommute, and i can work anywhere there's a broadband connection. i am very tempted by those beautiful, reasonably priced houses. i'm interested in comments on issues like, are people who live there accepting toward newcomers? do low summer cooling costs even out the high winter heating costs? is the cost of living there, for someone who owns a home and doesn't have to do a long commute, high or low or average? are there other things i should know before going further?

you'd be right by canada - where the drinking age is 19. expect a lot of nightlife. cost of living is average to pricey.
