if you have encountered a fender bender then if the accident is caused by you i.e you were at the fault. then the police will charge you the appropriate fine and that report will be then send to your insurance company soon. so its up to the policy of your insurance company and the loss of the accident they will charge you more premium per month as a fine., Jason Gagnon

Q. Car fender bender -insurance low balling payment, how to get more money from the insurance company?
had a fender bender accident and the other driver was charged, the insurance adjuster said the damage is $1500.00 and gave check (not yet cashed). took car to repair shop (from the insurance approved list) the estimates were $2000.00 and $2800.00. how and what can be done to get the insurance to pay up more, so i can decide later when and where to get the car repaired? thanks

"The damage exceeds the amount of the insurance company estimate..."

The adjuster is not going to just give you more money b/c a shop says so. Pick which shop you want to have to the repair. You can use any shop you chose. When the shop gets to repairing your car - if the damage exceeds the amount of the insurance company estimate , then the shop will call the adjuster. The adjuster will inspect the torn down car and approve a supplement as appropriate. The check for the supplemental repairs will be issued and mailed to the shop. This check is in addition to the one you already have. If you want to pocket the money- you can do that. But you get to pocket the amount of the adjusters estimate. With out seeing the estimates - we can't tell you why one is higher than the other. But that does not mean that the adjusters estimate is wrong or not valid. A 500 difference can easily be a parts price difference or labor rate difference.

Q. How to deal with a fender bender without insurance?
i got into a fender bender on saturday. i don't have any insurance so the girl was nice enough not to call the police. i told her to get an estimate and i'll take care of whatever damages i did. well, her estimate is way, way too much. there was only a baby dent in her rear bumper. what should i do so i don't get ripped off? should i go with her and get another estimate?

"You should have had insurance..."

You should have had insurance! But if you want to be a horrible person (and teach her a lesson to trust nobody at the same time) you can do nothing and pay nothing.

Q. What happens when you get into a fender bender with no insurance?
what are my options if my car insurance lapsed and i got into a fender bender? there is no police report but the other parties insurance says i owe them $4300. i'm in california, if that matters.

"The insurance company that has paid this loss..."

It is untrue that you need three estimates. The insurance company that has paid this loss likely paid a fair price...they don't want to be out any more money than they have to, especially knowing you are uninsured and their likelhood of recovery is less! Honestly, you should ask if they make payment arrangements. Failure to pay can result in damaged credit (you go to collections). This will get reported to the DMV, if it hasn't already. In California if you are involved in an accident exceeding $750.00, you need to notify the dmv regardless of fault (ask for an SR-1 form). This is supposed to be done within ten days of the loss. Consider yourself lucky there is not an additional bodily injury claim, which would seriously up the chances the other driver would SUE YOU. They also still have that option right now. Start those payments.

Q. Should i call my insurance on a minor fender bender?
i was in a minor fender bender where it was my fault. my car scratched the rear bumper of the other vehicle. the other vehicle will probably need a little touch up paint. my vehicle did not sustain any damage. the other party submitted a claim to my insurance company already. do i still need to call my insurance to report the accident? also, what's the likely hood my insurance premiums will go up, even though the damage was very little on the other vehicle?

Yes, contact them. They are wanting to talk to you about this. A claim has already been filed, and it is your duty, per your policy contract, to cooperate with the investigation. Yes, your rates will most likely go up.

Q. Insurance fender bender ?
ook, the other day a lady changed lanes into me, 35 mph fender bender. my fender on my 2000 mustang is dented in like it got punched twice and has a foot long gash in paint. they stick out and have creases normally, so its beyond repair. her insurance only wants to replace/paint fender and paint the small area of rub off on the bumper. shop says he will do the rest of the bumper for $80. should i make the insurance paint the whole bumper so it will match? its a 3 inch mark on the corner of bumper where the fender meets. the insurance wants to pay shop directly also, but of those two options, should i make them do it or do they have reason to only fix the damaged small part. sposed to look like it did before the accident though, 80 bucks is not bad.. but i want it to match also color is atlantic blue for now. thanks any ideas?

"The insurance company only owes to repair the damaged area..."

The insurance company only owes to repair the damaged area. If it's just the corner of the bumper that is damaged - they will blend into the bumper. You can request they paint the entire bumper but I don't know that you can "make" them do anything. Generally when I write an estimate to replace a fender - I blend into the bumper, hood and door. If the shop things the adjusters repair estimate is missing something - the shop will call the adjuster and they will work it out. But the insurance company only owes to repair the damaged area.

Q. How much does your insurance go up when you get in a fender bender?
my brother got in a fender bender. he is 16 and got his license about 9 months ago. the other car wasnt badly damaged, just minor. we live in california. anyone know about how much his insurance policy will go up?

"It will most likely increase his insurance rates for atleast 3 years and..."

there is a very good chance it is going to go up....depends on what company he's with how much. It will most likely increase his insurance rates for atleast 3 years and can be looked at by underwriters for up to 5 years with some companies. hope this helps (there may not be an increase in premium until his renewal date at which time they may charge him with an at-fault accident.)

Q. Why don't people get off of the road in a simple fender bender and exchange insurance information?
why do they get out of thier cars in the middle of the road and exchange insurance information causing huge traffic jams.

"Need to see the result of the accident in order to accurately complete accident..."

Most people learn that in an accident, you should not move your car until the police have had a chance to view the scene. The police need to see the result of the accident in order to accurately complete accident paperwork and cite the faulty driver, if there is one. Most state laws require that a police report be filed for damage in excess of $500, and I can't tell you the last time I saw a report with the estimated damage under $500. Doesn't take much to rack up a $500 bodywork bill...

Q. Will my car insurance rates go up after my first fender bender?
i'm sixteen years old and i got into my first fender bender. i was at fault, but the officer at the scene said that the damage was minor and would probably be less than 400 dollars. however, i was just wondering if my parent's insurance rate would go up ( i'm under their name) and whether or not it would just be easier to pay out of pocket. and if it did go up, how much do you think ( i live in tennessee )

"Your parents insurance will go up somewhere in the..."

Most companies don't care about the dollar amount of the accident. Because you are a young, high risk driver, your parents insurance will go up somewhere in the ballpark of 33% for the next 3 years. You will be better off paying for it out of pocket. BTW: if you got a ticket for the accident, it will show up on your MVR record. When the insurance company re-runs your record (usually when the policy renews) they will see the accident and charge you extra even if you didn't use them to pay. The good news is it sounds like no one was injured.
