"Buying used car from the police impound..."

Buying used car from the police impound auction can be a good deal if you choose well. There are lot of stolen cars that were police impounded, so make sure it has all the necessary documents showing that it is legally safe to own those cars. The good thing is that criminals often dress up their cars well, so chances are you`ll get a well furbished car. /John Ice

Q. Have you ever purchased a car from the police impound lot and how did you go about?
doing that? is there a list of cars you can get? did you bring your mechanic to check out the car you wanted? did you ask why that car was impounded and if the car has been cleaned since it's impound? how much did you pay for the car and was it a lot cheaper than you'd buy elsewhere? did they require a specific downpayment? did you have to buy it outright with cash or would they accept a loan company's payment? just how do you do that? was it a good working car and how long did it last?

"The reason they were impounded is because people didnt want them..."

The overwhelming majority don't run or are wrecked. There might be a half dozen cars that run out of hundreds. Many they dont even have keys to. The reason they were impounded is because people didnt want them or didnt think they were worth paying the towing & storage fees.

Q. Are people able to buy cars from a police impound lot?
im about to be 16 and i need a car but i dont wanna pay 6 billion dollars

"Most are probably stolen and driven like a stolen car..."

I am, sure most police have auctions. I would be worried about buying such a car. I am certain that these cars received very little if any care or maintenance. Most are probably stolen and driven like a stolen car. Find something in a paper or off a reputable lot.

i was wondering if anyone knew where the huntington beach police department impound lot is. im looking to buy a cheap car that runs from a reliable source. i was told that police impound lots are the way to go. please help. all the information you have on this subject will be helpful. thank you. are there any other ways to get very cheap running cars? im looking to pay 3000 or less.

"The impound lot does not sell cars..."

The impound lot does not sell cars. They take them to the auction. But since they don't have the title you aren't going to get much for your money.

Q. Can i get my car from the impound with a bill of sale & signed title?
my car got impounded on saturday. the car is not titled to me but i have the signed title & a receipt from the woman i bought it from more than 4 months ago. the impound lot is saying i have to have the car titled & registered which i can't because i can't get it inspected while it's in the impound lot, but the police officer said i could take the title & bill of sale with me! how can i get my car back!?!

"It is registered in your name the impound yard is right that you can't..."

You're in a catch 22 situation. Probably in your state all transfers must be done within 30 days of the sale, and unless it is registered in your name the impound yard is right that you can't drive it off the lot. But, with the title and bill of sale, you can prove you have an interest in, and a right of possession of the vehicle. There are a couple of ways to take it off the lot without having to tag and insure it. One is to have the tow company tow it to your house after paying the fees and an additional tow charge to take it home for you. The other is to show up with a trailer and a pair of ramps, drive the vehicle up on the trailer after paying for the impound, tie it down with 4 chains, and take it home yourself. *Perhaps* there is a mechanism in your state to get a permit to drive it to the inspection station, ask the office that issues tags and ask, if so then you could drive it from impound to inspection.

Q. How much do you think it will take to repair a police impound? could i just get a reliable car for 5k instead?
i don't know how to repair cars so it would probably be cheaper to buy a reliable car....what kind? i don't want to have to do a lot of upkeep if i get a car for 5k.......i want something economical..... burton they sell police impounds at auctions so you don't really have time to take it to a mechanic

"Auctions can be a viable way to..."

Despite the BS answer about the people picking and choosing before they are sold to the public, you can occasionally find a good deal. Keep in mind that these vehicles were abandoned by their previous owner for a reason. Auctions can be a viable way to find a vehicle as long as you realize the risks.

Q. I am looking for a website that displays pics as well as prices to buy not auction cars from joplin, moimpound?
i have tried and tried to find a website that didn't give me the run around and want me to register a bunch of crap just to send me to an auction site. i don't want to go through an auction process. i simply want to view what vehicles the joplin, mo police department has in its impound lot and the prices with a picture of the vehicles and then if i see something i like i would like to go wherever the lot is and simply buy a car with no bs involved. is there any website or phone number i could use to do this? or do they make it much more complicated than it has to be or should be?

"Impounded vehicles must be sold at auction..."

Call the Joplin PD. They'll tell you how the handle disposal of impounds. I don't think that they put the listings up on a website yet. Or watch the public notices section of the Joplin Globe for announcements of sales. If memory serves, Joplin auctions off excess property in early spring and that might include vehicles, both impounds and city vehicles. For the most part, impounded vehicles must be sold at auction. The government is required to get as much as possible for the vehicles that they sell and auctions are a good way to prove that and the City of Joplin is the same as any other government entity in that respect. There's a chance that they run them through the auction house on 32nd St as well. But check with the Joplin PD for full information.

Q. What information is needed to report a car stolen in florida?
i had sold my car a couple of months ago, and the person that bought it never registered the car in his name. the car was stolen, and he said he reported it stolen. but the impound lot just contacted me, since i was the last registered owner of the vehicle, and are now ready to put a lien on my license if i do not pay the impound fees. the guy that bought the car would have/should have been contacted when the car was found, right? was he even able to legally report the car stolen? what info would the police need to file the report? *** i have a bill of sale, but, they wont take it because it is not notarized. i cant get it notarized now because the date would be current, they wont stamp it for the wrong date. i transferred my tag to another vehicle, and tag office knows i dont have the car, but, that is not enough proof for the impound lot.

Unless you can prove you sold the vehicle, you're sunk. Did you turn the plates in?

Q. Bought a car from a local dealership and the car ended up being a stolen vehicle? what rights do i have?
i found out that a used car i purchased from a local car dealer ended up being stolen. the police came to my home and impounded the car. i contacted the dealership, and they've provided me a free rental car. they let me know that i would need to come in and pick out a different car. the car i had was a later year model with very low mileage, but the cars they showed me were older with a lot more miles on them. does anyone have any advice on this? i'm not looking to get "something for nothing", but i want a car that i like - not just to pick something out to get this over with. different people at the dealership are telling me some different things - one says i'm going to end up with a "better" car ($4k more than the other), another is trying to put me in something that is around the same price as the other (but older and with more miles) and another says "i've got them over a barrel". should i just pick out a car i like and "make" them give it to me with the same payments?

"A better one or find an identical car elsewhere and let them know where..."

You are entitled to the same year, make, and model with a comparable amount of mileage for the same price. If they don't have one, you may find one elsewhere and they have to buy it or hook you up with a better vehicle. Your payments should remain exactly the same. Otherwise, you have the right to sue for your losses. They know this and will wish to avoid an unpleasant court experience, not to mention the publicity. They obviously failed to perform the mandatory check on the vehicle they bought. The person who stated you have them "over a barrel" is right. If they don't have the same car with the same miles, pick out a better one or find an identical car elsewhere and let them know where they can buy it to replace your car. Personally, I would want a full refund so I can take my business elsewhere. A dealership that doesn't run the VIN number of the car to check on it's history could end up selling a vehicle with undisclosed accident damage, flood damage, or even......a stolen vehicle. Whichever route you decide to take, if they give you any resistance(like a runaround), you may have to spend a grand or so on an attorney. That will shape them up real quick.
