Q. Printer ink.?
someone said that you can use different numbered hp cartridges other than the recommended cartridge #. i have an hp photosmart 7350, an hp 3900, an hp photosmart 475, an hp 920, and an all-in-one 4180, i know the cartidges for each printer but i hate buying so many different catrridges. can my printers use any other cartidge #.

"And the cartridge can accept as much ink on a refill as the 56..."

The OfficeJet c4180 takes the 93 or 95 color, and the 98 black. It was dumb luck that we discovered that our chosen 57/56 test printer (the DJ5550) accepted other numbers. We, obviously want the lowest inventory of test printers. My suggestion is to try switching your cartridges for your printers, based on do they look similar? Don't force them, and if you put them in and you get an error light....you know they won't work. Also, switch them out individually. The black may be fine, but not the color. You'd get an error light, but you wouldn't know that it was only one of the cartridges causing the error. Also, regarding the HP 21 and 56: While it is true that HP only puts 5ml in the 21 and 19ml in the 56, they BOTH can be refilled to the same level. If you are a refiller, or know of a good one, the 21 is a better bargain. Edit: The sponge on the 21 does go all the way to the back, and the cartridge can accept as much ink on a refill as the 56. The 21 only has one vent hole in the top, but rest assured, the sponge carries all the way to the back of the cartridge. Perthaps you are thinking of the 92 that only has the sponge halfway?
