On the Canadian side, u would think u were in US. It is just so full of commercialism!!! They even have a casino there!!! The US side is a state park, very nice, really is the place to enjoy the magnificence of the nature. And u get much closer to the falls on the US side. The journey behind the fall is on the Canadian side. But as Nikkie said, it's pretty underwhelming. A better one will be Cave of the wind on the US side. That will take u as close as one can to the Fall. If u want to have some photo op, in which the fall is in the background, u have to go to Canadian side though. But if u don't drive, just walk, it's very easy to go back and forth between the two sides.

Q. How long would it take to get to niagra falls from malden,mass? we're planning to go to niagra falls. we are traveling by car, and would like to know how long it would take to get from malden,mass to niagra falls.
I just went on google maps and it says about 7 hours and 47 mins.

Q. What is the best and cheapest way to go to niagra falls from winnipeg? i am visiting winnipeg for some office work. i want to visit niagra falls during the weekend. can anyone suggest the best and cheapest way.
Winnipeg is a long way from Niagara Falls.
Fastest would be fly to Toronto or Hamilton (is closer) or maybe even into Niagara Falls (very small airplane), then rent a car and drive the rest of the way.
Cheapest would be by bus, but it would take you at least 2 days to just get there.

Q. How far away are other attractions from niagra falls? we are thinking of a vacation at niagra falls. we've heard that the maid of the mist is a good idea. what are some other ideas and how far away are they from the actual falls? is a week long vacation too long would you only recommend a couple of days?
Well there is the walk behind the falls, there is a new attraction called The Niagara Fury which looks pretty cool. There is also Clifton Hill (which is very fun, lots of things to do and places to eat) it's about a 10 min walk from the falls. There is the Skylon tower (about 3 minutes up the hill from the falls). There is also the spanish aero car which hangs over the Niagara Gorge (maye 10 min drive from the falls) and right near that is the Butterfyl Conservatory. an indoor rainforest type building with loads of butterflies. There is also marineland which is fun for kids, although I don't support the way they treat their animals to each their own so feel free to visit there.
Niagara on the lake is a nice trip outside of the craziness of niagara falls. You can see fort george there (a british fort from the war of 1812). People dressed up, daily cannon and musket firings and a working kitchen where they make 1812 snacks which are delicious. NOTL is about 20 min from niagara falls. This is also wine country, you can do wine tastings or winery tours here.
Toronto is also about an hour to an hour and a half away and there is TONS to do there.
There is a place about 45 minutes away called African Lion Safari which is fun.
Check tripadvisor.com for attractions in all of these places.

Q. In niagra falls can you take a cab from one side of the border to another? around the niagra falls area , can i take a cab from a new york location to a ontario location and vice versa?
Yes you can.
Make sure that you have your passport and any other personal ID with you.
When calling for the cab, be sure to ask them to send one that can go over the border because some of their drivers are not able to do so.
Also when calling the cab company, get a quote for how much the entire ride will cost you from starting point to destination. It's going to be pricey but if your willing to pay than it is pretty smooth sailing if everything is in order.
Like others have said I would just take the cab to the border and then walk across if you are able to. It will save you a lot of money and give you some great views of the river and falls... Depending on where you cross that is!

Near the Falls (the actual water) there is a company called the Niagara Parks Commission, they own everything in front of the water. You should go on their website and see everything they own. They have Journey behind the Falls, where you walk through underground tunnels and come out behind the water. They have Maid of the Mist, where you are on a huge boat that drives you up to the bottom of the falls. They have the Great Gorge adventure where you walk down in to the gorge to see the rapids. There are many more touristy attractions there too all of which are located on the Niagara Parkway (this is the name of the street). Off the Niagara Parkway is Cliffton Hill (name of a street) up both sides are fun houses, haunted houses, arcades, rides, a ferris wheel, restaurants and clubs. These are the two most popular tourist attraction streets in Niagara falls. To get there from the QWE you exit on to HWY 420 and get off on Victoria Ave, turn right and follow that road until you hit Cliffton Hill, then you turn left. At the bottom of Cliffton Hill It the Niagara Parkway.

Niagara Falls didn't create the Niagara River. The Niagara River was created by water flowing down hill from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. The falls themselves occurred because the Niagara River had to flow over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, a long ridge of land stretching from upper New York State through Canada and up past Tobermorie Ontario. The drop over the escarpment is a couple of hundred feet and that is what caused Niagara Falls. The Falls originally formed approx 7 miles downstream of where they are today and they have eroded over the thousands of years to where they are now. And they will continue to erode, slowly over the years to come however they will not erode back to the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually, if they erode that far, they will meet up with Lake Ontario and the Niagara River will just be a long set of rapids.

If you have a passport then you will be fine to cross the border. I live in Niagara Falls, NY and frequently cross the border into Canada as I have family living there. Depending on the customs agent, you might get a hard time, but as long as you have the proper documentation and answer their questions honestly, there will be no lasting problems - at most you'll be asked to pull over for further questioning. As for the question of whether you should travle just through the USA - it depends on how much time it will save you to drive through Canada. You are going to be crossing the bridge two times - once on your way from Chicago into Canada and one as you are leaving Canada and going to Niagara Falls. I know that especially on Holiday weekends, the bridge can be backed up for two hours or more. So, if you take that and mulitply it by both crossings and then add in the possibility of being stopped and questioned at the bridge, you could add significant time to your trip. I can tell you that when I go to Michigan I always drive through Canada. But if you choose to drive through the USA because of bridge traffic, but still want to see Canada, you can walk across the bridge - with a lot less hassle - and see an amazing view of Niagara Falls from both sides. The walk takes 5-10 minutes, including customs and wheelchairs or baby strollers are OK.

The Rainbow Bridge is the one right in Niagara Falls that you can walk over, the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is about a 10-15 minute drive away and the Peace Bridge is about a 40 minute drive away.
