Q. Cheap places to buy food/homeware and having a car in san diego....?
hello everyone thanks for taking time out to read this. i'm a exchange student at sdsu and i thought that it would be a lot cheaper here than in england, so far the clothes have been cheaper but not much else, could someone tell me if that's because i'm in san diego? where could i find cheap homeware (wal-mart isn't that cheap) if someone could suggest some dirt cheap shops i would be very greatful! i wanted to know after buying a car in the us what do i need? insurance? tax? etc thank you in advance for all your answers. sensible answers appreciated. =)

If you're SDSU, you're just a couple of Trolley stops away from Ikea on Fenton Parkway. You can get a set of plates and bowls for 6 people for $20.00. It's by far the best place for inexpensive housewares. For a car, you'll pay sales tax and registration fees when you register it. You'll need to have liability insurance and it's possible that you may need to have an emissions test. You can call DMV to see if it's required for that particular car.

Q. How can you find a cheap taxi cab ride from san diego to torrance?
i called two taxi services, and they all say its going to cost me $340 for the ride since its 120 miles. are there any service that would do it for much cheaper? i need to take a taxi and get the car i bought from the dealership 2 hours away. any idea? plus i don't want to rent a car..been there im tired of it.

It WOULD be cheaper to rent a car. But why not take a Greyhound? One way from S.D. to L.A. is $17. From anywhere in L.A. you can take public buses for $5.00, or get a cab from there for about $50.

Q. Where can i find a cheap car? usd old?
hi, i'm a college student i always walk to my college because it's a mile away and a mile back home. however, in a few days i am going to be walking 4 miles a day because i pick up my sister from school. i was wondering if there is a good site where i can buy a used car with a budget of 600ish. i am only looking for a retirement car nothing fancy or speedy... by the way i am from san diego i know there is a few junkyards here but i don't know how they function. i figured i can probably make 500$ish in a week or two with my online store. (not easy) but it's possible.

Getting a working car in 600 is not easy, go to a used car dealer to mention your needs, they may be able to get one that's just running, keep checking craigslist and carfax. You can expect a reasonable car that runs in atleast $1500.

Q. Where is the best place to find a good used car?
i've heard there was somewhere is san diego or san francisco that sell cars that have crashed but have been fixed. i also heard they're cheap and good quality. does anyone know if that's true? if not, where can i buy a good used car? i can only afford 5000-6000 but my parent might be able to chip in a few thousand....but i'd rather buy it on my own.

Used cars can be purchased by going to the local dealer, looking at the classified ads, looking at car auctions or checking out the various websites that allow a person to search and buy a car online. But the best place to find cheap used cars is car auctions. You can shop right from the comfort of your own home and you usually can buy a near new car with the lowest price. There are there kinds of car auctions: Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee. Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high. Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100. Four months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online government auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet . You can check out http://economy-car.info ,That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one. Good luck!

Q. Where can i find a salvage/junk yard in san diego?
i am looking to replace a relay on my car, and it would be much cheaper if i could take one off of another car instead of buying one from a parts store.

Look in your phone book under auto salvage/dismantling. I'm sure there are several salvage yards down in Chula Vista or National City.

Q. If i buy a car in mexico with usa license plate?
does that mean that the car is registered in usa..i have found cars on autotrader.com.mx that are really cheap and have usa license plate. i wanted to buy couple of them and sell them to usa...i live in san diego 10 min away from mexico border

Sounds like a scam. If the car turns out to be stolen, they are completely out of californian (and USA ) jurisdictions. === >> autotrader.com.mx that are really cheap How cheap? ANYBODY can take their used car to a used car dealer and get about 80% of the book value. So why sell it really cheap? Good luck...

Q. Help me find cheap ticket to & from seoul to la - websites & airports!!! my husband's midtour is coming quick!
my husband is stationed in osan, korea. he gets to come home for one month in september, every site i've looked at gives me prices between 970 and 1200... round trip!!! i have to buy his ticket in the next month or two, where is the cheapest website or what other airports are cheaper to fly into? we live near la, ca but i researched las vegas and san diego and san fran... those all have the same prices, i'll drive up to 6-8 hrs to save a few hundred bucks... my car is good on gas.... please help!!! military air flights are not possible so please don't give that as an answer, there used to be a flight called the "patriot" that flew in and outta korea but the military killed it due to budget cuts....

I'm sorry the prices are higher than you would like, but unfortunately the reason you are seeing these prices from all the cities is, that is just what they run. As far as a $790.00 + tax ticket from Tokyo to LAX isn't going to work considering international tickets can easily have $200 - $350.00 in taxes! (This varies depending on the country/city). Plus he would still need to get to the other city. International tickets from certain cities can be very expensive. In fact a $970 ticket is a GOOD price for what you are looking for. It isn't going to matter if you are willing to drive 6 - 8 hours, I don't think you will find a "less expensive" city to fly into. LAX is a major international airport. Unless you want to potentially pay more than $1,200 for this ticket, I wouldn't wait because airfare is based off availability. Have you only tried websites? If so, that's your 1st problem there. Online "isn't" contrary to popular belief "cheaper". Try your local travel agent. We work with Air Consolidators that only work with agents. It is based off availability so it is crucial to book in advance. As long as the availability is good as the prices are pre-contracted fares with airlines that need to be in a certain class of service they might be able to get a little better price. If nothing else IF it's the same, go through an agent because if anything needs to be possibly changed you have a go-to person, not an 800 # waiting for the next available rep. There is no miracle website though that is going to give you a dramatically lower rate. Congrats though on your Husband being able to come home to see you and his family. I couldn't imagine how one deals with that distance, it must be so terribly difficult. Have a Lovely visit with one another and best of luck to you.

Q. What are the best cities for a flight attendant to be based in?
due to the reason that the first year's salary is approximately less than $25k per year, i wanted to find a city with a good cost-of-living that has good cheap studios (i won't be home much and really don't want a roommate.), decent public transportation (i don't plan on buying a car.), and one where there is a decent city/night-life. i also want it to have a very low crime rate. just so you know, my airlines offer a lot of california cities for options, i.e. fresno, san diego, sacramento, etc. i have already been "hired" for training. i also know they will assign me where they want me to stay. however, my recruiter says i have an "option" to choose my preferences. i just want to make sure i choose the best options when consulted. if i have no preferences stated, they could put me where every one else doesn't want to go! i definitely do not want that.

"I've lived and been around a lot and i've never found that combo..."

Cheap cost-of-living, good public transport, and vibrant night-life. And low crime rate. If you find it, let me know. I've lived and been around a lot and I've never found that combo. Portland, Oregon, maybe? You can live in New Orleans and have the first three, though forget low crime rate. And the public transport doesn't really go to the airport (there is a bus I've heard, though). California has the highest cost-of-living in the nation after NYC. Great for night-life (LA and SF) and public transport (SF--not LA). Houston does great for cost-of-living (esp. close to airports) and night-life (downtown) but you'll need a car. NYC metro area, maybe--you could live pretty far out along a commuter train line and take it into the city maybe. If I were a stewardess I would frankly pick a hub in suburbia (Fresno, Sacramento, Houston, etc.) and get a cheap car and a nice place with a low crime rate. You will find friends and places to hang out in any city. The fact of the matter is, you're going to be spending the night all over the place with your work colleagues...just try to find some fun ones and go out with them on whatever town you end up in. Good luck and have fun!!!!

Q. Thinking about leaving so cal for the lone star state, good idea?
i' am a service member (us navy to be exact) who has lived in san diego and all over southern cal the last four years. i have found so cal (particularly san diego) to be quite charming and scenic with excellent weather. however, despite all of that and the fact that there is so much to do here, i have grown tired of the pretentious, materialistic, and shallow attitudes that many people display here (major kudos to the few people here who are not like that!). i have grown tired of the way that many people here seem to care more about looking like movie stars (i.e. women wearing those stupid oversized sunglasses that cover not only their eyes, but their entire faces; guys trying to look like and dressing up like brad pitt, ect.), and trying to out-do their neighbors by buying an even fancier luxury car. anyway, despite the deep desire that i have to stay here, i have recently looked at moving to texas, since the people there are pretty friendly and hospitable throughout the entire state. there is just as much to do there recreationally as california. also, even though i' am a dedicated surfer and california has a lot more wave action than texas, i find that the state has plenty to offer when i can't go surfing. texas is also not insanely overpopulated like california is. in fact, texas is so big and has so much open space that i don't think that it will ever fill up (at least not in my lifetime anyway). i also have some family in texas (one of the major reasons that i have been making regular trips there in the first place). i have found that many universities in texas (i.e. ut austin, tcu, texas tech, baylor, houston, rice, dallas, ect.) offer a better quality education than many of the schools out here. also, rent and housing are much cheaper throughout texas. with everything as expensive as it is out here in so cal (california in general), and the fact that i will be living on a budget while attending college after the service, i think that moving to the lone star state would be the better decision to make at this point (and once i get my degree, i might move back if there is a good job offer). what do you think?

I think you've already convinced yourself. Good luck to you. Check with "Texas 2 Step", a frequest poster in this forum. She's done rode that bull already.

Q. Did u know this about wd-40??
i had a neighbor who had bought a new pickup. i got up very early one sunday morning and saw that some vandal had spray painted red all around the sides of this beige truck. i went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news. he was very upset and was trying to figure out what to do - probably nothing until monday morning, since nothing was open. another neighbor came out and told him to get his wd-40 and clean it off. it removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the truck. i ' m impressed! wd-40... water displacement #40: the product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. wd-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the san diego rocket chemical company. its name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. they were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus wd-40. the corvair company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts. ken east (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in wd-40 that would hurt you. when you read the "shower door" part, try it. it ' s the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. if yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. it ' s a miracle! 1. then try it on your stovetop... voila! it ' s now shinier than it ' s ever been. you ' ll be amazed. 2. here are some more uses: 3. protects silver from tarnishing. 4. removes road tar and grime from cars. 5. cleans and lubricates guitar strings. 6. gives floors that ' just-waxed ' sheen without making it slippery. 7. keeps flies off cows. 8. restores and cleans chalkboards. 9. removes lipstick stains. 10. loosens stubborn zippers 11. untangles jewelry chains. 12. removes stains from stainless steel sinks. 13. removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill. 14. keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing. 15. removes tomato stains from clothing. 16. keeps glass shower doors free of water spots. 17. camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors. 18. keeps scissors w! orking smoothly. 19. lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes. 20. gives children ' s play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide. 21. lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handlin g on riding mowers. 22. rids a kid rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises. 23. lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open. 24. spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close. 25. restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers. 26. restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles. 27. lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans. 28. lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for easy handling. 29. lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly. 30. keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools. 31. removes splattered grease on stove. 32. keeps bathroom mirror from fogging. 33. lubricates prosthetic limbs. 34. keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell). 35. removes all traces of duct tape. 36. folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain (granddaddy had something there!) 37. florida ' s favorite use is: "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers." 38. the favorite use in the state of new york --wd-40 protects the statue of liberty from the elements. 39. wd-40 attracts fish. spray a little on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. also, it ' s a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states. 40. use it for fire ant bites. it takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch. 41. wd-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag. 42. also, if you ' ve discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with wd-40 and re-wash. presto! lipstick is gone! 43. if you sprayed wd-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start. 44. it removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! use wd-40 for that nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. it doesn ' t seem to harm the finish and you won ' t have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks. 45. bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! use wd-40! p. s. the basic ingredient is fish oil. interesting..,

It has been a tough day, you and WD-40 just made it brighter. Thanks!
