Q. I am using windows xp with 512mb of ram, are there any ways i could conserve a bit more ram? without buying more memory, is there any things i could do just to conserve a bit more,
i have already done most of the basic things, but there may be still a few more out there which i have not done.
i have just got avg anti virus, as i was using mcafee, and thats helped a lot, any more ideas.
i just use this computer for general use web surfing, email,
Check the size of your 'Page file' and increase it to 1 or 2 GB.

Q. What is one of the anti vires protection programs, that dosent take up that much ram? i wanna get a anti vires protection programs that is good at what it dose..
something that can remove vires
i tried mcafee, and avg and norton antivirus
but 2 are ram hogs and 1 dose not work for me
i don't care if it is free or expensive but i wanna get a good program that can fix it and that is that you know...
something that can work with a good spyware doctor program..
"Better than the best sellers norton and mcafee (av-comparatives.org..."
Get NOD32. I use it and it's the best and the lightest on your system.
I have researched all anti-virus products and the best anti-virus protection is Kaspersky. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 is just as good if not better, it runs faster and has less software conflicts but may be more difficult to use.
The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.
Recent tests prove Kaspersky and NOD32 are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (av-comparatives.org ).
Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you're having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three. If you want a free anti-virus Avira has higher detection rates than AVG or Avast! (94.26%).

Q. Best anti-virus protection suite for low ram winxp system? best anti-virus protection suite for low ram winxp system?
avg 8.0 free tried, resident shield consumes alot memories
kaspersky--currently being tried--gives lots of false positives, can't quarantine most threats automatically, database shows corrupetd, outdated sooften.
mcafee,norton are two craps!
what about avaira and avast?
should i uninstall kaspersky and try avast or avaira??
No stick with Kaspersky it's the best out there. You obviously have not installed it correctly if you keep getting and corrupt database.

Q. I want to protect my computer from viruses, etc. what should i do? hi, i heard of viruses, trojans, worms, etc and would like to know programs that can protect and prevent my computer from viruse, adware, etc. i heard of avg, norton, mcafee, active security shield, ccleaner, ad-aware, etc. and tried those. i don't know how preventable my computer is to the internet and i would like to know a suite of programs that can prevent and protect my computer from all sorts of attacks and viruses. i would prefer that the program will be really low on ram and have fast scanning. thanks to who answers.
"Security software is nice..."
Security software is nice, but if you are reckless the best security software in the world will not save you since none of them are perfect.

Q. Avg question not working? ok i have a a 2005 computer and i have been using mcafee and it works really well it is just a big ram hog..
so i took a friends advice and used avg now it hasn't picked up any viruses and i know my computer has some....
dose anyone know why this is????
and dose anyone know if the new windows live onecare is a ram hog or if there is any problomes with it thanks !
i think these programs "find" things when first added to try to show they are good. after you have them they dont pick up things. notice theres usually nothing for it to find?

Q. What is the best anti-virus/anti-malware for computers? i have a new computer and i don't use much space so ram or space isn't a problem, i'm willing to go to best buy and spend money on a good program.
if anyone thinks their protection software is good please tell me what it is.
i'm thinking nortan or a good edition of avg.
don't tell me mcafee by the way.
"As a it person i recommend panda internet security 2008 covers all viruses malware..."
As a IT person I recommend Panda Internet security 2008 covers all viruses malware, and adware also cover upto 3 pc and isn't a system hog like Norton and other anti virus programs.
DON'T USE NORTON I remove Nrotn daily off business machines its a system hog, flags good items as viruses and misses real one don't use Norton!!!!!

Q. Which antivirus progs can run side-by-side along with mcafee smoothly? i'm currently using a dell inspiron e1505 laptop, os windows vista home premium and its protection consists of mcafee 7.2 and webroot spy sweeper, the latter's subscription expiring.
my desktop pc is a pentium 4 clone w/ 1gb ram, os windows xp with a tandem protection of avg and avast! programs. both antivirus programs run side-by-side and provides great protection; where one prog can't detect a malware/virus the other detects and eliminates it. i also use norton 2006 utilities for repairing registries damaged by trojans/viruses.
however, vista is whole new ballgame for me and previous experiences with mcafee in the past were not too good; mcafee now seems to be efficient. i'd appreciate some light shed on the question above so that i can provide maximum protection for the laptop (getting the laptop busted by viruses/trojans/malware sucks and i don't want to go through the hassle of having to repeatedly make reparations on it).
thanks.
"Then try either avg or ad-aware..."
you should not run two antivrius programs. If you mean anti spyware, then try either AVG or Ad-aware, both are free
