    Q. Which is better avg or mcafee?

"In comparison to avg or mcafee..."

In comparison to avg or mcafee , avg is better . There are also other antiviruses which are better than these two , i.e. avg and mcafee . But it depends on the person which antivirus he selects for his system :)

    Q. Which is better mcafee or norton or avg?

    "Mcafee..."

Among the three antiviruses i.e. mcafee , norton or avg , my advise is that norton is better than the other two . There are some other antiviruses also which are much better than these antiviruses . But it depends on the person which one he choose for his computer system

    Q. Should i remove mcafee before installing free avg?
hp 1.8ghz 256 ram, also have windows defender, zone alarm, and ccleaner. any suggestions would be welcome on a better free setup.

"Yes you should remove mcafee before installing avg anti-virus programs do..."

I didn't see a spyware remover there's a few free ones but I use Spybot - http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10804822 and AdAware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?tag=pop.software&cdlPid=10844457 as far as your question is concerned, yes you should remove mcafee before installing AVG Anti-virus programs do not get along with each other. The previous answer was correct, Download, disconnect, uninstall, install, reconnect, UPDATE, scan

"Better than the best sellers norton and mcafee (av-comparatives.org..."

Get NOD32. I use it and it's the best and the lightest on your system. I have researched all anti-virus products and the best anti-virus protection is Kaspersky. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 is just as good if not better, it runs faster and has less software conflicts but may be more difficult to use. The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans. Recent tests prove Kaspersky and NOD32 are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (av-comparatives.org ). Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you're having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three. If you want a free anti-virus Avira has higher detection rates than AVG or Avast! (94.26%).

    Q. Best anti-virus protection suite for low ram winxp system?
best anti-virus protection suite for low ram winxp system? avg 8.0 free tried, resident shield consumes alot memories kaspersky--currently being tried--gives lots of false positives, can't quarantine most threats automatically, database shows corrupetd, outdated sooften. mcafee, norton are two craps! what about avaira and avast? should i uninstall kaspersky and try avast or avaira??

No stick with Kaspersky it's the best out there. You obviously have not installed it correctly if you keep getting and corrupt database.

As a IT person I recommend Panda Internet security 2008 covers all viruses malware, and adware also cover upto 3 pc and isn't a system hog like Norton and other anti virus programs. DON'T USE NORTON I remove Nrotn daily off business machines its a system hog, flags good items as viruses and misses real one don't use Norton!!!!!

    Q. Which antivirus progs can run side-by-side along with mcafee smoothly?
i'm currently using a dell inspiron e1505 laptop, os windows vista home premium and its protection consists of mcafee 7.2 and webroot spy sweeper, the latter's subscription expiring. my desktop pc is a pentium 4 clone w/ 1gb ram, os windows xp with a tandem protection of avg and avast! programs. both antivirus programs run side-by-side and provides great protection; where one prog can't detect a malware/virus the other detects and eliminates it. i also use norton 2006 utilities for repairing registries damaged by trojans/viruses. however, vista is whole new ballgame for me and previous experiences with mcafee in the past were not too good; mcafee now seems to be efficient. i'd appreciate some light shed on the question above so that i can provide maximum protection for the laptop (getting the laptop busted by viruses/trojans/malware sucks and i don't want to go through the hassle of having to repeatedly make reparations on it). thanks.

"Then try either avg or ad-aware..."

you should not run two antivrius programs. If you mean anti spyware, then try either AVG or Ad-aware, both are free
